When you think you may be pregnant, it is normal to feel overwhelmed and confused- especially if you had not planned for this. You are not alone. We are here to help you navigate this new journey. At PRC Grand Rapids, we offer no-cost lab-quality pregnancy testing to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

When should I take a pregnancy test?

As soon as you miss your period, you can take a pregnancy test. However, the earlier in pregnancy you take the test, the higher the likelihood of a false-negative result. This is because pregnancy tests work by detecting the presence of hCG, the hormone associated with pregnancy. If a test is taken too early in a pregnancy, your hCG levels may not be substantial enough to be detected by the test. This is why we suggest waiting until a missed period or at least 3 weeks after your estimated date of conception.

If your period is irregular, we recommend waiting 3 weeks after your estimated conception date before taking a pregnancy test.

I already took a test at home. Do I need to have one at PRC Grand Rapids?

Home pregnancy tests have improved over the years, but there are a variety of factors that could impact the accuracy of your results. We recommend coming in and taking advantage of our in-clinic pregnancy testing to any woman who believes she may be unexpectedly pregnant. Our tests are lab-quality and are administered by our professional medical services staff, making them 99 percent accurate. All at no cost to you.

My test is positive. What is my next step?

After a positive pregnancy test, your next step is to confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound. Ultrasounds can give you information to help guide your decision-making process. At PRC Grand Rapids, we offer no-cost to you limited ultrasounds* to women with positive results on their in-clinic pregnancy tests.
