In Michigan, men have no legal right in a woman’s abortion.  However, studies have revealed that a father has a significant influence in the decision regarding the life of his unborn baby.Stressed Men and Abortion

An unplanned pregnancy can leave both the mother and the father feeling powerless, upset, and scared.  This important decision affects all three (mother, father, and child).  Even though in the end the woman has the choice to abort, it is the responsibility of the father to be involved in the decision-making process.

The father of the baby can take a role in the decision by helping his significant other find the facts about the developing baby, abortion procedures, and abortion risks.  He can also help her by listening to how she feels about her pregnancy, her life goals, and what may concern her about becoming a parent.

Many women choose to have an abortion because they don’t want to be single mothers or because they are having problems in their relationships with their partners.  The father of the baby could directly impact a woman’s decision by offering a commitment to her and their child and by showing through his actions that he is taking steps to provide emotional and/or financial support.
