  • Uterine Perforation: Accidental puncture of the uterus by surgical instruments, possibly requiring further surgery.
  • Incomplete Abortion: Not all fetal tissue is removed, requiring a repeat procedure.
  • Cervical Laceration: Tearing of the cervix during the procedure.

Long-term Risks:

  • Future Pregnancy Complications: Increased risk of ectopic pregnancies, premature birth, and placenta previa in subsequent pregnancies.
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Chronic pelvic pain and potential infertility resulting from infection.

More information has revealed that the FDA has skewed data when studying the abortion pill during the trial period and as a result, the abortion pill was approved under false pretenses. According to the Ethics and Public Policy Center, The FDA reports that less than .5% of women experience a negative adverse side effect after taking the abortion pill. We now know that 11% will experience some sort of serious effect within 45 days of taking the abortion pill.

Psychological and Emotional Risks

There is so much research coming out that shows the emotional effects of abortions on women. Recently it was discovered that 37% of post abortive women struggle with depression and 34% struggle with anxiety. There have also been reports of recurring nightmares, guilt, suicidal thoughts, drug and alcohol abuse. The majority of women who get an abortion have some sort of adverse emotional reaction towards their procedure at some point after the abortion.

Who Should Not Get an Abortion

Certain factors increase the risk of adverse side effects from an abortion procedure. Individuals with the following conditions should consult with a medical professional to discuss their options and the potential risks involved:

Conditions That Increase Risk of Adverse Side Effects:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, bleeding disorders, or severe anemia.
  • Allergies to medications used during the procedure.
  • Currently experiencing or has a history of ectopic pregnancies.
  • Current pelvic infections.
  • Intrauterine device (IUD) currently in place.
  • Age less than 18 years old.
  • Past 70 days gestational age.
