Men and Abortion

Men often report feelings of emptiness, powerlessness, and confusion regarding abortion decisions.

  • Emptiness
Men, like women desire emotional resolution after the death of a child.  Emotional resolution is nearly impossible with abortion.  There is no visible conclusion-just a memory due to the fact that those involved with abortion rarely speak about the experience to others and there is rarely a grave or marker provided for the deceased baby.  The grieving process is left unfinished.

  • Powerlessness
May breed contempt. It is natural for men and women to become hostile when they have been excluded from decision making.  In the abortion decision, men can feel deceived and manipulated.  In the abortion decision, all too frequently the male’s role is passive.  His desires and feelings may be ignored and marginalized.  Anger and even some increase in male sexual dysfunction are sometimes observed.
  • Confusion
Is the man’s role to protect and defend his family and those in a weaker position or is his role to abandon responsibility and fit nicely into the mainstream of abortion thinking.  For men who don’t care about the women they have sex with and impregnate, abortion is a convenient way to rid them of any and all responsibly and evidence.
