A pregnancy test determines if you have HCG (a pregnancy hormone) in your urine. If the test is positive for HCG, this would indicate pregnancy. It usually takes two weeks after conception for the level of HCG to be high enough to show positive on a urine pregnancy test. Gestational age is the medical term used to measure fetal age. It is calculated from the first day of your last period. A full-term pregnancy is approximately 40 weeks. To roughly calculate your gestational age, you can add 7 days to the first day of your last period then subtract 3 months. To get a more accurate date, an ultrasound is recommended. In the first three months of pregnancy miscarriage is more common than most people realize. You will want to know if your pregnancy is developing normally or if miscarriage is likely.
